Yankees’ star issued worrying injury report after leaving the first rehab game premature

The latest DJ LeMahieu injury update is concerning.

Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo also addressed LeMahieu’s issue via Joyce.

“I know how much he loves this team,” Rizzo said, “the clubhouse, the game, and how hard he worked to get back, so that’s tough. I’m going to text him and ask how he’s doing. Obviously, having a setback is not nice. But it’s all about getting him well and on track.”

It goes without saying that LeMahieu is frustrated by this situation. He was once regarded as one of MLB’s best players, but injuries have hampered his overall effectiveness in recent years.

DJ LeMahieu’s injury concerns

At 35 years old, LeMahieu is attempting to contribute at a high level in MLB. However, doing so while dealing with an injury is challenging. He was able to play 136 games in 2023 after participating in only 125 during the 2022 season.

Nonetheless, his performance has diminished in recent years. LeMahieu, a three-time All-Star, hit just.243/.327/.390/.718 in 2023. He is still capable of favorably helping a major league team, but he must find a way to stay on the field. LeMahieu has yet to play in the 2024 regular season, and his return date has become unclear once more.

Yankees’ 2024 season

Despite LeMahieu’s absence, New York has managed to achieve success in 2024. They are presently leading the American League East with a 16-8 record. The Yankees’ acquisition of Juan Soto has paid off handsomely, and the team appears to be a contender once more after missing the postseason in 2023.

Having a senior player like LeMahieu on the field would help, however. The Yankees are undoubtedly hoping that LeMahieu can return soon. However, given the length of the season, they will continue with caution with the veteran.
