Yet another Braves elite prospect gains a promotion

The Braves’ farm system is not highly regarded, yet the players at the top levels continue to impress.

There have been numerous promotions in recent weeks, including two to the major league level in Hurston Waldrep and Spencer Schwellenbach. The arms in particular have been exceptional, but the latest promotion goes to Drake Baldwin, one of the Braves’ best position player prospects.

The 23-year-old catcher was a third-round pick in 2022 and showed a lot of promise last season, blasting 16 homers with an .844 OPS across three levels (A+-AAA).

Baldwin hasn’t been on the same roll in Mississippi as he was last season, hitting.244 with four home runs and an OPS of.650. However, he has 10 RBIs in the last six games, including a home run and a double.

With Travis d’Arnaud and Sean Murphy on the roster, Drake Baldwin is unlikely to make an impact this season, but d’Arnaud is getting up there in age. Baldwin may soon become Murphy’s running buddy behind the plate in Atlanta.
