Yankees Unexpectedly Still ‘In Touch’ With…

The New York Yankees continue to be tied to one of baseball’s top pitchers.

Blake Snell, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, is still available in free agency, and there has been widespread talk that the Yankees could be a landing point. New York makes sense since it could need more pitchers, but Snell would be too pricey. His contract would not only be pricey, but the club would also face significant tax ramification.

Although a contract is doubtful, the New York Post’s Jon Heyman reports that the team is still “in touch” with Snell. “The Yankees are thinking about it, they’re in touch,” he stated. “They’re working on it, and while we know they made an earlier offer, we don’t know what it was. It was five years, although I don’t think it was for $150 million; I don’t know the precise amount…

“They stopped chatting for a second, then resumed and have been talking ever since, trying to figure it out. Snell is attempting to do the bridge deal for three years with an opt-out after the first year, like (Cody Bellinger) has. Right now, the Yankees aren’t thrilled with the concept.”

In an ideal scenario, Snell would be pitching for the Yankees by 2024. While this is true, the current cost is likely prohibitively expensive. It appears that both parties are interested, but Snell will most likely sign elsewhere.
