Yankees re-sign veteran pitcher to add strength

The New York Yankees are reintroducing a familiar face to strengthen their depth.

According to MLB insider Robert Murray of FanSided, the Yankees are re-signing outfielder Greg Allen to a minor league contract. The agreement includes an invitation to spring training.

Allen, 30, played 22 games for the Yankees in 2023, hitting.217/.333/.478 with a.812 OPS and one home run.

Allen appeared in 51 minor league games last season, hitting.251 with an OPS of.759.

Allen has 304 career games in the major leagues, hitting.231 with a.640 OPS over seven years and four different organizations.

After signing superstar Juan Soto, Trent Grisham, and Alex Verdugo this winter, the Yankees’ outfield looks packed. This limits Allen’s opportunities, since he will most likely be used as a depth piece in the minor leagues’ upper levels.

If the Yankees lose an outfielder due to injury, Allen could be called up to the major leagues to act as a reserve player.
