Yankees have been mentioned as a possible landing spot for a pitcher with ace potential

The New York Yankees have already made two significant moves this offseason, so why not make a third?

This offseason, New York added some much-needed outfield help by signing Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo, and Trent Grisham. The starting rotation is the Yankees’ next most pressing need.

This offseason, the Yankees must add at least one more starter. New York has been linked to a number of starters in free agency, but the trade market might also be a possibility. According to Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller, if the Yankees were to hunt for a pitcher through trade, one player who could be an option is Miami Marlins young hurler Jess Luzardo.

“After giving up a bunch of their best trade chips to acquire Juan Soto, the Yankees don’t have many options for prying Luzardo away from the Marlins,” Miller said in a statement. “It’s not going to happen unless they come out swinging with Anthony Volpe, Jasson Dominguez, or top prospect Spencer Jones in the deal.”

“However, after falling short in the bidding war for Yoshinobu Yamamoto, they clearly need a starting pitcher, if not several.” Will Warren is only a placeholder in the planned rotation, and if they can find two more starters, they may be willing to use Clarke Schmidt as a middle/long reliever. So, to get Luzardo, they may hand up Jones, whom they drafted in the first round in 2022.”

After acquiring the trio of outfielders, New York still has a strong farm system and could make a deal if it so desired. Luzardo, who is only 26 years old, has showed tremendous ace potential. The young starter has two straight seasons with an ERA under 4.00 and could surely assist the Yankees’ rotation.
