MLB reporter Francys Romero announced on Twitter that the Yankees are in competition with the Toronto Blue Jays, Houston Astros, and Pittsburgh Pirates for the righty free agent.
The Blue Jays, Pirates, Astros and Yankees are still in the bidding for Cuban RHP free agent Yariel Rodriguez (26), per sources. The teams in the bid are not expected to make a decision with Rodríguez until the negotiation of Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s contract is finalized.
Rodriguez has a 3.06 ERA and 645 strikeouts in eight pro seasons. Rodriguez has pitched for the Chunichi Dragons in Japan’s NPB league and the Cuban National Series. The 26-year-old has faced top foreign hitters and is prepared to compete in the majors.
Rodriguez was declared a free agent by the Commissioner’s office on November 3 and was soon worked out by the Boston Red Sox.
