Yankees are in negotiations with a great pitcher about playing with the club

The New York Yankees could stun the baseball world once more before the 2024 season begins.

New York already has one of the largest payrolls in baseball, but the organization has demonstrated that it is still willing to add more. The Yankees’ biggest roster vacancy remains in the starting rotation. The team is hoping that several hurlers will have successful comeback seasons. This is possible, but not guaranteed.

New York has been linked to several available pitchers and, surprise, could make another move. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Yankees have been suggested as a landing point for 2023 National League Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell and remain a viable possibility for him.

“Snell, Yankees they’re in contact, but I don’t know if there is any offer or negotiation,” Heyman went on to say. “But, certainly there is some buzz there.” The 31-year-old is one of baseball’s top pitchers, but he has yet to find another opportunity in free agency. He led the National League with a 2.25 ERA in 2023, but he is searching for a big contract and has yet to find one.

New York already has a large payroll, but signing someone like Snell would be an excellent addition. If the Yankees could pair Snell with Gerrit Cole, they would have arguably the finest one-two punch in MLB. The Yankees could use some help in the rotation, and signing someone like Snell may go a long way toward helping New York return to the playoffs.
