Wolverines ready to host Miami’s linebacker commitment

Michigan will host one of the top linebacker prospects in the country

Michigan will informally host 2025 four-star linebacker and Miami (FL) commitment Elijah Melendez on a three-day trip next weekend, he confirmed to TMI’s Brice Marich on Sunday evening.

Melendez, who committed to Miami in December, was a priority target for the previous defensive staff led by Jesse Minter. Their pursuit of him has picked up significantly after the hire of Brian Jean-Mary, who played a key role in obtaining this trip for the Wolverines.

In addition to this weekend’s visit, Melendez is scheduled to make an official visit to Ann Arbor the weekend of June 7th. This will provide the coaches with at least two extended opportunities to persuade the Kissimmee (FL) Osceola standout to reconsider his verbal commitment to the Hurricanes. He explained to TMI back in February why the Wolverines are still under consideration.

“Coach BJ is real, and he’s from around the same area as me, so we click really well,” Melendez remarked at the time. “I’ve always considered Michigan a strong contender for me. I’ve always admired Michigan, and with Coach BJ on board, I’m hoping they’ll pursue me hard because it’s been a few months without a linebacker coach, and Michigan was still in my top three. Now let’s see what they can do with one.”

The four-star is presently placed 138th in the 2025 247Sports Composite rankings.
