Will Ronald Acuña Jr. miss the first series…

The 2023 season of Ronald Acuña Jr. and the Atlanta Braves was cut short in the NLDS by the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies, who defeated them in four games for the second time.

The Braves won’t have to wait long to begin avenging their postseason loss when they face the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park in the first series of the regular season. However, it is unclear whether the reigning National League MVP will start for Atlanta on March 28.

According to The Athletic’s David O’Brien, Acuña’s right knee will be examined by Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Monday, following an MRI on Friday that found irritation arund his meniscus. This is especially notable since Acuña tore the ACL In July 2021, he injured his right knee, forcing him to miss the team’s World Series run.

While O’Brien claims the Braves “remain optimistic” that their franchise player will be able to play by Opening Day, manager Brian Snitker has been open about the uncertainty surrounding the 26-year-old right fielder.

Snitker expressed optimism about Acuña’s current situation. “Maybe (he’s out) for a few weeks or so, just to calm things down. But, honestly, I don’t know until we hear what the doctor says.

In 2023, Acuña had a historic offensive season, hitting.337/.416/.596, with 41 home runs, 106 RBIs, 73 stolen bases, and a 1.012 OPS. Acuña’s first six seasons have significantly impacted his success On course to become one of the greatest outfielders in MLB history. However, given his dynamic style of play, the long-term health of his right knee is something to keep an eye on.

Acuña appeared to have recorded a series-altering single with the bases loaded in the eighth inning of NLDS Game 4 against Craig Kimbrel. However, Johan Rojas made a wonderful catch that effectively ended the series.
