Will Reichard has left, but a redshirt rookie is poised to take over the kicking mantle for Alabama

The University of Alabama football team’s spring practice has sparked numerous queries from Alabama supporters.

People want to know everything, from how good Kalen DeBoer will be as head coach to whether the Crimson Tide have the talent to win a national championship this season.

One of the most intriguing concerns of Tide nation comes on special teams.

Alabama’s kicker, Will Reichard, was a picture of consistency.

Reichard not only accomplished perfection during the Tide’s unbeaten College Football Playoff National Championship season in 2020, but he also allayed Alabama fans’ anxieties about making kicks on a consistent basis. Reichard’s confidence allowed the Tide to never be concerned about his missed field goals.

He is now on his way to the NFL Draft, so someone else will have to take up the legacy he leaves behind. Conor Talty, a redshirt freshman, now takes over kicking duties.

Talty, a former three-star in the 2023 signing class, was one of the top kickers in the nation.

The Chicago (Ill.) native earned a five-star rating from Kohl’s Kicking and was the No. 2 kicker per Chris Sailer Kicking. Talty played in three games for Alabama’s 2023 Southeastern Conference Championship team. He made one extra point, totaled six kickoffs for 365 yards, and recorded a tackle. The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder has marquee shoes to fill, but he spent a lot of time around Reichard last season.

Talty learnt certain skills that will enable him move smoothly to the next successful kicker.

According to Touchdown Alabama Magazine, Talty ‘looks fantastic’ in practice so far.

Alabama fans will get their first peek at him on Saturday, April 13, at the A-Day Game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
