Will Fries, the Colts’ offensive lineman, is a wonderful value after having a breakout season

Will Fries, a third-year right guard, seems to be a diamond that the Colts have discovered and developed.

Despite their recent three-game losing run, the Indianapolis Colts haven’t had all bad news.

In particular, Will Fries, the starting right guard, has excelled during this season of unprecedented success.

The third-year offensive guard, who the Colts selected in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft, has progressively progressed since then. He went from being a backup interior lineman to a mainstay in Indianapolis’ starting interior offensive line.

While Fries didn’t exactly blow everyone away with his play last season, he did hold his own and—most importantly—continued to improve throughout the final stretch run. The Colts had difficulty last season after losing veteran right guard Mark Glowinski.

With an overall score of +65.6, Fries is currently PFF’s 26th best offensive guard overall. With a pass blocking grade of +72.3, he ranks 13th overall at the position.

Also, it’s critical to give credit where credit is due.

Despite receiving a lot of criticism lately for the Colts’ lack of depth at cornerback (*due to a steady trickle of injuries), general manager Chris Ballard has done the right thing thus far with Fries, as the team chose not to sign a seasoned player like Dalton Risner to contend for his starting position.

They haven’t had to as of yet.

Fries has improved from his previous performance of merely holding his own to become a valuable starting right guard.
