Where the Seahawks currently stand with their 2024 third-round selection from the Broncos

Suddenly, the Broncos have a shot to send their native third-rounder to Seattle.

When the Denver Broncos sent their 2024 third-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks, it appeared certain that the pick would arrive via the New Orleans Saints. The Broncos were 1-5 at the time and appeared to be among the worst teams in the NFL.

Now that the records are much closer, Denver is at 4-5 while the Saints are at 5-5, leading the unfortunate NFC South. Please remember that the team with the best record at the end of the third round will send a third-round pick to Seattle as part of a trade that saw the Broncos select cornerback Riley Moss at No. 83 overall and the Seahawks withdraw entirely from the third round.

I could have taken things a bit further and asked if the Broncos will end up with a better record than the Seahawks, which would have sparked some debate among you guys about who “won” the trade for Russell Wilson, but I’ll leave that alone. Denver’s chances of making the playoffs are probably too slim, but their games against the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings will still have an effect on the Seahawks’ season. Expecting the Saints to collapse to 5-12 is unrealistic, as they have an absurd schedule aside from the Lions.

As of right now, Tankathon estimates that the Saints have the worst record of any division leader, meaning the Seahawks would select at No. 83. That’s where they would pick in the order if we assume they are eliminated in the Wild Card round. The native of Denver is ranked 75th, in case you were wondering.

Broncos remaining schedule:

vs. Minnesota Vikings (6-4)
vs. Cleveland Browns (6-3)
at Houston Texans (5-4)
at Los Angeles Chargers (5-5)
at Detroit Lions (7-2)
vs. New England Patriots (2-8)
vs. Los Angeles Chargers (4-5)
at Las Vegas Raiders (5-5)

Saints remaining schedule:

at Atlanta Falcons (4-6)
vs. Detroit Lions (7-2)
vs. Carolina Panthers (1-8)
vs. New York Giants (2-8)
at Los Angeles Rams (3-6)
at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-5)
vs. Atlanta Falcons (4-6)

We might actually want Russ and company to win those two Broncos games against the Vikings and Lions because they could affect the Seahawks’ playoff prospects and seeding. Alternatively? If obtaining the best third-round pick is your top priority, support Denver over the Broncos and Saints this weekend.
