What Lions head coach stated on Lions, LA storylines

During Super Wild Card Weekend, the Los Angeles Rams will face the Detroit Lions on Sunday night.

Yesterday, Sean McVay adopted the approach of making the upcoming game about the teams, the Lions and Rams, rather than Jared Goff vs Matthew Stafford or the history that both Stafford and Goff have in both LA and Detroit. There is so much history between these two organizations, both recent and old, that it makes this clash must-see television. It’s also an NFL playoff game. It’s thrilling on its own.

Do you believe the teams will be able to concentrate on the task at hand? How will Goff’s experience with the Rams affect him? Could Stafford be affected by his history with the Lions?I’m presuming these are all professionals who can separate what’s vital from what isn’t. At the same time, these are people, and humans have a tendency to make the trivial significant.Do we have to wait all week for Sunday night?

Dan Campbell understands outside intrigue of Lions-Rams but won’t harp on history.

“The Lions head coach believes that those involved understand the history, and there is no need to bring it up or address those past happenings. But that doesn’t mean Campbell doesn’t understand the outside noise surrounding this postseason pairing, with Matthew Stafford returning to Ford Field for the first time since asking for his way out of Detroit early in 2021.

“I mean, I understand why people will be fascinated by it,” Campbell said. “I get that. So, I guess I can appreciate if I’m sitting where other people are. I understand it’s one of these stories, you know?

“But I just, it’s a reminder, too, though, and (Jared) Goff knows this, for example — But we win as a team. This is about the Lions versus the Rams and we win with three phases here. And he’s (Goff) a huge part of that, and all he’s got to do is to do his part. And he knows that. Just do what you’ve been doing all year.”
