West Ham start transfer discussions to sign £26m Liverpool target

The teenager is being tracked by the likes of Liverpool and Atletico Madrid.

West Ham have started discussions to sign Corinthians winger Wesley Gassova.

The 19-year-old is regarded as one of Brazil’s most promising players, and sporting director Tim Steidten has identified him as a top target.

The Hammers have begun negotiations early in an attempt to outbid Liverpool, Atletico Madrid, and Real Betis for his signature.

Corinthians apparently value Wesley at £26 million, but West Ham hopes to lower the asking price.

The agreement is convoluted because Corinthians only owns 70% of the player’s rights, with the remaining 30% held by the Sao Paulo-born winger’s representation.

Wesley can play on either flank, but he is primarily a right-footed left winger.

The forward has four goals and two assists this season and has played 60 games for the Sao Paulo giants since making his senior debut as a 17-year-old in 2022.

West Ham are looking to add to their assault this summer to relieve the pressure on Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen.

Manchester City is interested in Lucas Paqueta this summer, but he is unaware of a current FA investigation into potential betting crimes.

The interest in Wesley is unrelated to David Moyes’ impending exit in the summer. The 61-year-old is poised to be replaced by former Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui at the end of the season.
