West Ham in negotiations over £35m player

According to Football Insider, West Ham are in talks with numerous teams about selling Nayef Aguerd for 35 million pounds this summer.

Ligue 1 outfits Rennes and Lens are both working on permanent deals for the 28-year-old, who wants to return to France.

According to sources, the Hammers want to sell the defender this summer but will not accept anything less than £35 million after signing him for £30 million just two years ago.

Last month, Football Insider reported that West Ham was bracing for Aguerd bids from Rennes and Lens, as well as interest from rival French side Lyon and Saudi Pro League sides.

West Ham entertain offers for Nayef Aguerd after official contact

Aguerd has 58 appearances for the Hammers since his arrival in 2022, however he only played 28 times last season due to injuries and inconsistency.

Interest from Saudi clubs has remained since last summer, but French clubs have jumped ahead in the battle to sign him.

Aguerd’s return to previous club Rennes has emerged as a serious option, with the club looking to strengthen its defence ahead of next season.

Despite substantial interest from all parties, the East London club retains bargaining leverage over the potential sale, as his current contract is valid until 2027.

The Hammers are anticipated to utilize the £35 million from his sale to reinvest in their first-team squad, and they will maintain their asking price.

This comes after former Hammers striker Frank McAvennie told Football Insider on May 23 that a major defensive overhaul was required.
