On the “Kevin Stefanski Show” on Wednesday, Kevin Stefanski talked about everything Browns, including his strategy for quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson, with Nathan Zegura, the Browns GameDay Radio Color Commentator and Cleveland Browns Daily Co-Host.

Following the emotional and arduous victory of the Browns over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 11, some questioned Kevin Stefanski’s playcalling in the second half of the contest.

Nathan Zegura, the color commentator for Browns Radio and co-host of Cleveland Browns Daily, questioned Kevin Stefanski about it and inquired as to whether he could see opening the playbook up for DTR. In response, Stefanski:

Against Pittsburgh, the Browns looked to be in control of the game’s tempo and had a strong first half. Jaylen Warren’s 74-yard touchdown run to the end zone on the second play of the second half brought the Browns’ lead down to 10-7, almost wiping out all of that.

The Browns’ play-calling felt extremely conservative from that point on. They maintained Doran Thompson-Robinson in a very organized offense with short, fast throws while putting a lot of emphasis on the run game. With a 2.34 second throw time to go over the whole game, Thompson-Robinson led the NFL, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.

On the final drive of the game, DTR went four for five for 39 yards and led a game-winning field goal to break a 10–10 tie, allaying any doubts about the play-calling.

Stefanski only needed to play the Week 2 tape to see that turning the ball over was the one thing the Browns had to avoid in order to defeat Pittsburgh. His conservative play-calling style played a major role in the Browns’ victory on Sunday and their ability to win more games in the future.

This will not be the exception for Browns supporters; rather, it will be the norm. This team and this roster are so strong that they will win a ton of football games even if the quarterback doesn’t blow it.

Expect more of the same from the Browns offense this week in Denver, but as Thompson-Robinson grows more at ease, Stefanski might try to open things up a bit more. Since this is DTR’s first road start, the first half of the Steelers game will likely resemble it. If the Browns believe they are in control of the game, they might let Dorian go because the Broncos have the worst passing defense in the NFL.
