Wayne Rooney talks about Tom Brady for the first time after speaking with the owner of Birmingham

Wayne Rooney, a striker who once played for Manchester United, disclosed during his first press conference as Birmingham City manager that he had spoken with NFL legend Tom Brady.

Wayne Rooney, the new manager of Birmingham City, has talked about his chat with co-owner Tom Brady.

Rooney was hired as Birmingham’s manager on Wednesday after agreeing to a three-and-a-half-year deal. After holding positions at Derby County and DC United earlier, this will be Rooney’s third senior football management position.

On Saturday, the 37-year-old voluntarily ended his tenure as manager of DC United. Before it was revealed that Rooney would be departing the team with immediate effect, the Major League Soccer team had recently defeated New York City by a score of 2-0.

Since July 2022, Rooney had been in charge of DC after returning to the MLS team where he had previously played. Former Chelsea and Arsenal defender Ashley Cole and his former Man United teammate John O’Shea will be working with the former Manchester United striker in the Championship now that he has returned to England.

Rooney will now collaborate with Brady, a former quarterback for the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers as well as an NFL legend, as part of the appointment.

In August, the future Hall of Famer joined Birmingham as a minority owner after forming a relationship with Knighthead Capital Management LLC, the club’s controlling shareholder.

On Thursday, Rooney had his first press conference as Birmingham’s new manager.

The former striker discussed his conversations with Brady with media and said why he is looking forward to working with the legendary NFL player.

Rooney told reporters on Thursday, according to Birmingham Live, “I have spoken to Tom, he is very ambitious to move this club forward.”

The players need to see Tom Brady participating, so it’s nice to have him here. Tom’s commitment to the club is crystal evident.

Rooney continued, “For myself to get into English football is amazing, I have had possibilities at other clubs in the last six weeks to accomplish that.

I was excited to see where Birmingham wanted to go. We talked about a lot of similar things. Once I spoke with them, making a decision was quite simple.

The former quarterback was appointed chairman of a new club advisory board as part of Brady’s hiring. Brady has already attended a Championship game at St. Andrew’s to watch Birmingham play.
