Wayne Rooney criticizes £1.5 million rumors prior to his Birmingham City debut against Middlesbrough

Reports that Wayne Rooney makes £1.5 million a year at Birmingham City have drawn criticism from the player.

According to reports from the previous week, Rooney, 37, will earn about £29,000 every week at Blues. That amount is reportedly three times what John Eustace, his predecessor at St. Andrew’s, was making.

Rooney, who will coach his first match on Saturday against Middlesbrough, maintains that isn’t the case. In talks with the club’s management, the new Blues manager was more concerned about building a strong backroom crew than increasing his salary.

In response to the reports, Rooney stated, “We’ve seen many times that it’s not always the truth.” And it is untrue not only in regards to my employment at this football team but also in regards to my pay.

“As I mentioned last week, I thought the club’s forward-thinking approach was excellent. It aligned with my career goals and where I feel like I am in it. Birmingham City should return to the Premier League, and that is my sincere desire.

“To be honest, I didn’t even consider money while I was negotiating my contract. You have certain requests, such as coaches or other items for the training area. Although you ask for goods, money wasn’t on my thoughts.
