Wagner makes his city’s priority known

David Wagner acknowledges that Norwich City must step up their performance to be competitive in the Championship promotion race.

To enter the international break outside the top six, the Canaries have won only one of their last five league games.

In a resumption of domestic play, Daniel Farke will lead Leeds to Carrow Road, and Norwich will also play Sunderland and Middlesbrough.

Wagner emphasized the importance of not being overly focused on results. “I’m also aware of the table. However, in my opinion, it is not currently the most crucial issue for us.

Everyone enjoys winning, but we must keep our attention on the daily tasks at hand in order to enhance both individual and team performance.

“We need to be more strategic so that we can maximize our opportunities.

Everyone is aware that our starting strikers have been injured for a time and will continue to be so for a few more weeks or months. This is one of our issues, and we need to find solutions. Additionally, we must make sure that our players return in top physical condition.

“I have a lot of faith and confidence in this group, and I’m full of confidence. I believe that we will move them in the correct way after seeing how dedicated and diligent they are.

In recent league games, Wagner tried to vary his lineup in order to manage a busy stretch of games. The German praised Dimi Giannoulis’ progress this year but preferred Sam McCallum at left back for the 1-1 draw at Coventry.

“Fresh legs were the reason for the adjustments before the game. Because we anticipated that we would need to defend our box correctly, especially in one-on-one situations, we wanted to make sure that we had guys who were fresh and mentally as well. “Obviously, we had control of the game in the second half thanks to our substitutions.

“The defense was really committed, and the work ethic was excellent. From my perspective, we committed a few too many simple turnovers, especially in the first half.

This improved in the second half, which is why we had greater control over the game after that.
