Vincent Kompany was questioned about managerial anxiety after Burnley’s disappointing start. “We’re a calm club,” he said

Vincent Kompany insists he doesn’t spend too much time thinking about his position as Burnley boss following his side’s poor start to the season.

This afternoon, the Clarets host Bournemouth, a team whose head coach, Andoni Iraola, is under investigation.

Having lost most of their first games, the Cherries are now one spot and one point below Burnley in the standings.

Burnley has also had a difficult season, having lost seven of their first nine games in the top division after winning the Championship the previous year.

Before today’s crucial South Coast match, Kompany was questioned about if he had discussed his future with Burnley chairman Alan Pace considering the game’s hire-and-fire policy.

“We’re a club where we communicate a lot anyway,” he retorted. However, we’re also a really relaxed club, so the individual you described is the perfect person to respond to these kinds of questions.

“But in the end, operational priorities must be set, and that is raising this team to Premier League caliber. Nothing more.”

“Let’s not forget that this club has historically been extremely steady, which helps. That’s the history of this club; I’m not suggesting that’s how it should be in the future or that this is how it will always be.

“Having a shared past helps, but ultimately it’s not something I think about too much.”

Burnley will take on Bournemouth, a team that struggled in the previous campaign before Gary O’Neil helped them escape trouble.

Now that Iraola is in charge, it’s difficult to lead the Cherries once more.

Kompany delivered his assessment of the Cherries, saying: “There will inevitably be disagreements because there are two different managers.” Ultimately, though, I can understand why Bournemouth finds it difficult, just as we do.

“Yet we all share the same goal of reaching the next level and establishing ourselves as a reputable Premier League team, even though it takes time.” We’re now in a similar pattern and circumstance, but that’s just the way this league works.
