Vincent Kompany sends warning to Burnley players about officiating decisions

Burnley’s players have been warned by Vincent Kompany not to look to the authorities for favors.

During the Clarets’ 2-1 loss to West Ham on Saturday, what seemed to be a stonewall penalty was disallowed.

Burnley protested to referee Samuel Barrott that Vladimir Coufal had obviously tripped Luca Koleosho as he dashed into the Hammers’ area, but Barrott disregarded them.

The match went forward despite a VAR review.

However, when Koleosho was again hauled down in the area at the beginning of the second half, Vincent Kompany’s team was given a penalty kick.

Kompany was still not satisfied even after the second penalty event was awarded.

“I don’t think the VAR would call it back and call it off if the referee at that particular moment decides it’s a penalty. The referee will then have to make the final call, therefore that is his decision to make,” he stated.

“But as for me, I believe that the pattern of me standing in front of you is true—I stand here a lot talking about these things, and after these kinds of things, I never seem to be smiling.

The players are advised that they will receive nothing. If nothing is offered, you must accept it, go where you can, seize the opportunity, and stop waiting for others to decide what to do.

“I thought we played like that against West Ham, but obviously, margins are a major factor right now for us.”

The situation happened on Sunday during Manchester United’s 3-0 victory against Everton, almost exactly replicating it.

Referee John Brooks did not call a penalty on Anthony Martial at the time of the foul, but after a VAR check, one was given.
