Vincent Kompany on the possibility of altering Burnley’s strategy after a dismal season debut

After Burnley’s dismal start to the season, Vincent Kompany has proposed that the team should make “incremental change” rather than abruptly changing their strategy.

With a dismal 3-0 loss against Brentford on Saturday, the Clarets suffered another loss of the season.

With just four points from their first nine games, Burnley is stuck in the bottom three of the Premier League.

Many outside observers have criticized Kompany for his obstinacy in continuing with the strategy that proved to be successful in the Championship the previous season.

The Burnley manager responded, “The change is always incremental change, so you always learn and you always find a way to make it work,” when asked if another loss may alter that.

However, that has to do with discipline and habit more than merely winning or losing.

“At this point, drawing too much of a contrast between our team and the ones we’re up against is unrealistic; I’m not stupid enough to push myself in this direction.”

“Alright, we’re having some difficult games and outcomes right now, but this is a long league, and we need to bounce back before the other teams do.”

The fact that the Clarets are currently having trouble even staying in games is what worries fans the most.

From their first nine games of the season, Kompany’s team has already conceded three goals or more five times.

“At the moment, the first thing revolves around the basics again,” Kompany responded when asked what his team needs to do to become more competitive.

We haven’t performed as well as we did the previous year due to what some may consider the most obvious reasons: we were skilled at the fundamentals, second balls, duels, scraps, and fighting it out.

“Yes, we have faced formidable opponents in games thus far this season, but you only need ninety, ninety-five, or one hundred minutes of that.” At this point, coming out in the second half and demonstrating it then is not a workable strategy. It must always be the case.

“You have to realize it in these moments.”
