Update: Man declined a big-name team’s offer

David Ross, who was fired by the Chicago Cubs, is not going to give up easily.

This past weekend, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic revealed that Ross was contacted by the New York Yankees regarding a bench coach position. If Ross decides to take a new job right away, it’s rumored that he would want a managerial role.

Carlos Mendoza, the former bench coach for the Yankees, recently left the team to take a management position with a rival franchise. In light of Ross’ apparent rejection of the offer, Rosenthal reports that they are also taking into consideration Brad Ausmus, Andrew Bailey, or Luis Rojas for a bench coach role.

Ross, the former ESPN coworker of Yankees manager Aaron Boone, is reportedly tight with Boone. However, it’s obvious that Ross, a talented manager who guided the young Cubs to an unexpected 83-79 record in 2023, does not want to undervalue himself. It appears Ross will try to get past the ridicule he received following his firing by the Cubs by applying for one of the two MLB managing openings that are still open (Milwaukee or San Diego).
