Two star that could leave Ipswich Town this summer, including Sone Aluko

There will undoubtedly be some departures at Portman Road by the conclusion of the season.

Ipswich Town’s enjoyable season may witness the departure of players such as Aluko, Donacien, and Ball who seek more playing time.
Donacien’s injury woes could lead to his departure from Portman Road, as the club may not renew his contract.
Ball, who is short on playing time at Ipswich, may look for possibilities elsewhere, since the Tractor Boys are unlikely to offer him a new contract extension.

Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town have been one of the most entertaining sides in the Championship this season, and despite a setback in January, which included a shock FA Cup defeat at the hands of National League South side Maidstone United, the Tractor Boys have gotten back on track and remain a contender for automatic promotion.

McKenna has numerous excellent players at his disposal, including the ever-dangerous attacker Conor Chaplin and the incredibly imaginative full-back Leif Davis.

However, whether or not the Tractor Boys are promoted at the conclusion of the season, some players will undoubtedly leave Portman Road.

Sone Aluko appears set to quit the Tractor Boys at the conclusion of the season, as the 35-year-old has struggled for game time since the club’s promotion to the Championship, as he was only picked to McKenna’s starting 11 four times last season when the club gained promotion from League One.

We expect these two players to follow Aluko out the exit door at Portman Road.

The Saint Lucia international joined the Tractor Boys on loan for the 2018/19 season before signing a permanent contract with the Suffolk club in January 2019.

Following his permanent move to Portman Road, he spent the remainder of the 2018/19 season on loan at Accrington Stanley before making 22 appearances for the Tractor Boys in the 2019/20 campaign.

Donacien, on the other hand, returned to Fleetwood Town on loan for the 2020/21 season before becoming a regular for the Tractor Boys in both the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons.

The defender made three appearances for McKenna’s team at the start of the current season, but he has had an injury-plagued season and is currently sidelined after surgery.

Donacien is now 30 years old and appears to be an injury risk, so the Tractor Boys may not want to renew his contract, which is set to expire at the end of the season following the one-year extension the defender signed prior to the current season.

Dominic Ball

The former Tottenham Hotspur player joined the Tractor Boys in the summer of 2022 after spending three years at QPR, however he only appeared in four games during the club’s title-winning season.

Ball has not been a regular in McKenna’s side this season either, and he would prefer more playing time than he is currently receiving at Portman Road.

Ball’s contract with the Tractor Boys, like Donacien’s, is set to expire at the conclusion of the season, having signed a two-year agreement in 2022, and given his lack of game time, the Portman Road team is unlikely to rush to hand Ball a new contract.

A move away from Portman Road could be beneficial to Ball’s career because he requires more regular playing time, but the Tractor Boys do not appear to benefit from his services, therefore a new contract appears doubtful.
