Two Louisville rookies look strong after practice ahead of Senior Bowl

During the week of preparation for the Reece’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, Jarvis Brownlee has not been the only football player from Louisville to stand out.

During the third and last practice day before this year’s Senior Bowl, an all-star exhibition that gives some of the best upperclassmen in college football the chance to showcase their skills in front of NFL scouts before the NFL Draft, former wide receiver Jamari Thrash of the Cardinals also made the most of the chance to raise his draft stock by showcasing his many talents as a pass catcher.

“Thrash makes his second appearance as a standout player this week, as he also impressed during Tuesday’s practice,” the PFF’s Trevor Sikkema stated. Although he isn’t the fastest or the quickest, he still demonstrates excellent hands and a steady ability to make long catches over the shoulder. He demonstrated his vertical skills on Tuesday and his ability to win in the red zone on Thursday. Among the most remarkable receivers present this week was him.”

Despite having a wrist ailment that occasionally restricted him in the second half of the season, Thrash still established himself as one of the best receivers in the ACC. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound wide receiver led Louisville with 63 receptions for 858 yards and six touchdowns while starting all 13 of the team’s games.

Not to be outdone, Brownlee concluded the week with yet another outstanding effort during practice on Thursday. After an amazing practice week, Sikkema even said that the cornerback “might be the biggest riser of any player at any position”.

Sikkema continued, “He is a very competitive player.” “Despite being only 5 feet 10 inches tall, he had the longest arms of any cornerback on the American squad, measuring 31.75 inches. He made use of those lengthy arms at the catch point and in press coverage during the course of the week. He ought to be moving up the big board and mock draft lists.”

A foot injury kept Brownlee somewhat limited in the last few games of the 2023 season, but he was still one of the top cornerbacks in the ACC. This season, the 6-foot, 190-pound cornerback appeared in 11 games with nine starts, recording 30 tackles, one for loss, six pass breakups, an interception, and a fumble recovery.

The 2024 iteration of the Senior Bowl is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 3 at 12:00 p.m. EST on the NFL Network.
