Two La Liga teams are interested in a 26-year-old playmaker from Aston Villa

Youri Tielemans, a disgruntled midfielder for Aston Villa, is being pursued by Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad in January.

Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad, two teams in La Liga, are reportedly keeping an eye on Youri Tielemans. The playmaker, 26, is still dissatisfied at Aston Villa and may try to leave the team.

Youri Tielemans has come a long way since helping Leicester City win the FA Cup and scoring the game-winning goal, and the Foxes were relegated last season as a result. The Belgian joined Aston Villa in an unexpected move despite having stated his desire to play in the Champions League.

He did this in order to have more alternatives once he became a free agent and allowed his contract at Leicester City to expire. For the 26-year-old playmaker, who had a great project underway at Aston Villa, the switch made perfect sense, but things have since become worse.

As his starting midfielders, Unai Emery has decided to use Douglas Luiz and Boubacar Kamara. Tielemans is their main option off the bench because John McGiinn has been playing an advanced role in the formation.

Tielemans expressed his displeasure at starting in fewer games during the most recent international break, but he hoped the situation would change. The situation hasn’t changed; Emery has kept him on the bench for every Premier League contest with Aston Villa.

As things stand, if nothing changes, Tielemans might depart Aston Villa in January. Numerous clubs might be in line to get his signing, but the Birmingham-based team might demand a large payment. The playmaker’s current market value is €20 million, according to Transfermarkt, but the Midlands club may demand more.

Tielemans is coveted by Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad, but any prospective deal may be derailed by Villa’s financial demands. The La Liga duo might prefer a loan strategy, something Emery’s team might be unwilling to consider.

Atletico are looking to add a new midfielder and still have interest in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg of Tottenham. Since Spurs are unlikely to approve a loan move, signing the Dane would also prove to be an expensive endeavor. Villa might adopt a similar attitude and fire Tielemans for good.

Tielemans needs to leave the club, so even Sociedad might not have the money for a long-term move. Although it is unclear if the 26-year-old playmaker is eager to move to a Spanish team, a move is not ruled out given that both clubs are expected to offer Champions League football.

In addition, Tielemans concentrates on the Euros, for which he must play frequently. Between now and January, his situation at Villa could significantly change, but as things now, he could depart in the upcoming window.
