Two Atlanta Braves trade arrivals in May impress early on

Both players the Braves acquired via trade during May are impressing so far in the organization.

While the month is not quite out, the Atlanta Braves have been active in terms of trades in May, bringing in two new players and selling away infielder Luis Guillorme.

With names like Zack Short and Jimmy Herget, when were they brought to Atlanta in May, and how have they performed since?

Beginning with Short, the 28-year-old was acquired from the Boston Red Sox for cash on May 9 and has swiftly made an impression in the major leagues in place of injured third baseman Austin Riley.

So far, Short has started four games for Atlanta at third base, where he has a perfect fielding %. In terms of offense, Short has made an impact by slicing.400/.571/.600 (4-for-10) with two doubles, two RBI, and one stolen base, with a 2:4 K:BB ratio.

Herget, on the other hand, was purchased for cash from the Los Angeles Angels on May 2, but has yet to see action with Atlanta, having spent all of his time at Triple-A Gwinnett.

With the Stripers, the right-hander has four relief appearances with a 2.25 ERA in four innings. Herget has also recorded one save and a 7:2 K:BB ratio throughout that time.

Looking ahead, Short’s role will undoubtedly lessen when Riley returns from injury, but he has likely made his case to continue in Atlanta as a bench option, while Herget, despite being based in Gwinnett, is a name to remember and could see time with the Braves this season. Can both maintain this high level of play moving forward?
