Tuesday Injury Update: Hopes for the Return of Key Defenders

Before their Week 15 clash, the Indianapolis Colts and Pittsburgh Steelers revealed their initial injury reports.

The Indianapolis Colts are trying to recover from a humiliating loss to the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday, but they received some encouraging news on Tuesday ahead of their huge Week 15 battle against the Pittsburgh Steelers this Saturday.

JuJu Brents, the team’s rookie starting cornerback, had missed the last six games (seven weeks) due to a quad injury, but he began the week as a full participant on Tuesday after finally returning to practice last week. That bodes well for his availability this weekend.

However, the Colts’ injury report is a bit of a mixed bag, as two offensive starters and crucial elements of the run game, running back Jonathan Taylor and right tackle Braden Smith, did not participate.

After playing on Sunday and now playing on a short week (Saturday), the Colts staged a walkthrough on Tuesday rather than a workout.

Smith did not play against the Bengals on Sunday and was replaced by rookie Blake Freeland, who has started seven games this season.

Taylor missed his second straight game on Sunday after sustaining a thumb injury that necessitated surgery in Week 12. Colts head coach Shane Steichen voiced confidence in Taylor’s return this season, saying, “That’s the plan, yeah.”

Zack Moss has taken Taylor’s position in the lineup, but he has yet to replicate the kind of success he had earlier in the season when teams weren’t as focused on him.

Brents and Speed are names to keep an eye on in the coming days, as Brents has been out for an extended period of time while Speed was forced to miss last Sunday’s game.
