Travis d’Arnaud’s honest Braves warning will scare the rest of MLB

The Braves are winning games even with some hitters slumping.

However, the Braves have seen a trio of batters get off to shaky starts, with Matt Olson, Austin Riley, and Ronald Acuna Jr. all struggling recently. And, somehow, they’ve won games. Travis d’Arnaud, the Braves’ catcher, provided an honest assessment of the team’s current situation and future prospects.

“It’s crazy, I feel like we’ve been playing good baseball, but I don’t feel like we’ve been playing as good as we can,” he added. “Obviously, Ozo has been carrying a heavy load of that. So, I believe that as the season progresses, we will inevitably improve. I believe it will be enjoyable as the season progresses and we find our stride. “And entertaining to watch.”

Ozo here refers to Marcell Ozuna, who is hitting.326 with nine home runs, 27 RBIs, and 18 runs scored. Despite the slumps of the others, he has been the Braves’ leading hitter. The Braves have also been hit by the injury bug, with Spencer Strider being out for the whole season.

Braves hitters going through some mechanical adjustments

The Braves’ three struggling sluggers are doing everything they can to get back on track at the plate. According to O’Brien, hitting coach Kevin Seitzer has described the improvements they plan to implement in order to turn things around.

“(Olson) and Riley’s mechanics are a touch off. Ronnie isn’t in rhythm like he was last year. Not yet. I sensed (Acuña) was getting closer during the last five days. But Matt and Austin have been working on some mechanical modifications, and we’ve noticed some discrepancies from when things were going smoothly.

Olson has gone hitless in eight straight games. Riley has just two hits in the last six games. Acuna’s numbers are substantially down from previous season: he is hitting.291 with one home run and six RBIs, compared to 41 home runs and 106 RBIs last season.

Overall, they’re winning games, and d’Arnaud’s message should scare MLB clubs throughout the league. When this trio of batters gets it together at the plate, the offense will be even better.

The Braves are on a roll heading into Wednesday’s series finale against the Miami Marlins, having won eight of their previous nine games. They will play three games against the Cleveland Guardians in Atlanta before going west to face the Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Dodgers.
