Transfer Rumor: 8 Birmingham City players who are likely to leave this summer

Birmingham City hasn’t had a great year so far, and eight players could depart the club this summer.

This season, the club is in risk of relegation as a result of several managerial changes. So far, John Eustace, Wayne Rooney, Tony Mowbray, and Mark Venus have led the team in their attempt to prevent relegation to League One.

With a lot of players out of contract in the summer, they will be wary to re-sign with a team that appears more like League One than the Premier League.

With that in mind, here are all of the players who are expected to depart Birmingham City on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Neil Etheridge

Keeper Neil Etheridge’s contract expires in July. He has spent practically the whole season on the bench, with John Ruddy preferred as the club’s number one goalkeeper.

The former Cardiff City player is expected to depart Birmingham in the summer if he is not granted a new deal at the end of the season.

He is rumored to earn £23,000 per week, which is a lot for a club of Birmingham’s size, especially if he isn’t playing consistently.

Ivan Sunjic

In 2019, Ivan Sunjic signed a five-year contract with Birmingham after joining St Andrews for £6.3 million. This contract expires this summer, and if nothing changes, the midfielder will depart the club.

He has been an important player on an unstable team, and at 27 years old, he should be in peak form. After five uneven years at the club, he will most likely wish to move on to a higher-level team.

Scott Hogan

Scott Hogan, for example, appears to be leaving Birmingham this summer. He has barely started a few games this season, and his lack of appearances makes a new contract offer appear significantly less likely.

He was linked with a move to Sheffield Wednesday in January, and he might join the Owls in the summer after leaving the Blues.

Gary Gardner

Gary Gardner’s lack of playing time this season will not persuade Blues executives to award him a new contract before it expires.

Gardner, who has played more than 100 league games for Birmingham in his five years there, could see his Blues career end if he does not impress between now and the end of the season.

Marc Roberts

Marc Roberts, who has been on the periphery of the starting 11 this season, appears to be leaving the club at the end of the season.

Given his playing time and age, the 33-year-old appears unlikely to be offered a new contract as one of many that will expire at the end of the season.

Lukas Jutkiewicz

Lukas Jutkiewicz has been with the Blues since 2016, and this summer will commemorate eight years since his signing.

Sadly, it appears that this will be his final season. He has played approximately 300 league games for the club and will be remembered as a legend by Blues fans.

With the club unlikely to offer the 35-year-old a contract extension, he will most likely leave the club on a free transfer in the summer.

Keshi Anderson

Keshi Anderson appears to be on his way out of the club. The 28-year-old has failed to get a position for the first time this season and will not want to stay at a club where he does not play football.

While his contract expires in the summer, the club does have an option for an additional year. They can extend his contract for another season and try to sell him in the summer, but he will be a free agent.

John Ruddy

Despite being 37, John Ruddy has established himself as the Blues’ main goalkeeper this season. However, with his contract coming to an end, they will need to make some decisions if they want to keep him at St Andrews.

Ruddy will become a free agent in the summer. However, considering his age and current playing time, one would expect him to desire to stay with the club. It appears that Birmingham has the final say on whether he stays with the club.
