According to reports, released Aston Villa midfielder Abube Onuchukwu is expected to sign for Premier League rivals Ipswich Town on a free transfer.

Onuchukwu joined Villa as an under-13 before signing a two-year scholarship in 2022.

Last season, he scored three goals in 13 under-18 Premier League appearances, but Villa did not offer him a new contract at the end of the season, and he left Bodymoor Heath along with Dylan Mitchell, Chisom Afoka, Frankie Ealing, Taylor-Jay Hart, Aaron O’Reilly, Edward Rowe, and Jack McDowell, the latter of whom has signed for QPR.

Onuchukwu won’t be out of football for long, as TWTD reports that he will join the Tractor Boys’ under-21s ahead of the new season. Ipswich returned to the Premier League this season, their second promotion in a row under Kieran McKenna, and are currently looking for players to join their first-team squad.

However, there will be recruits to the academy, including Onuchukwu and Crystal Palace defender Leon Elliott.

Villa, meanwhile, have made millions from their academy in recent years, particularly this summer; following the sales of Jack Grealish, Cameron Archer, Jaden Philogene, Aaron Ramsey, and Carney Chukwuemeka, Villa have already sold Tim Iroegbunam this summer and are set to sell Omari Kellyman to Chelsea for £19 million.
