TOWN APPOINTS SPORTS AND EXERCISE MEDICINE CONSULTANT

The Club is pleased to announce the hiring of Dr Jon Houghton as Sports and Exercise Medicine Consultant.

Dr. Houghton is currently the Elite Sport primary at the prestigious Fortius Clinic in London, with whom the Club has collaborated in recent years, and has served as the Welsh national team’s primary doctor for the past 11 years. During that time, he worked at several European Championships and the 2022 World Cup.

His role at Town will involve working closely with Director of Performance Andy Rolls and Head of Medical Matt Byard, as well as other members of the Performance Team, to support the Club’s injury prevention and rehabilitation efforts.

Dr. Houghton joins Town’s Performance Team in this specialty post as part of a summer expansion ahead of the club’s return to the Premier League, with several other additions expected in the coming weeks.

“We are delighted Jon has agreed to join us,” stated Matt Byard.

“Jon is an extremely experienced and well-respected sports and exercise consultant who will provide invaluable injury insight and supportive management to our players in the coming season.”

“Jon presently works at the Fortius Clinic in London, a premier sports injury center, and has previously held successful positions with the Welsh national team and Surrey Cricket, making his experience incredibly important to the Club.

“We know he will be an excellent addition to the Performance Team as we work to create the best possible environment for the Club’s players.”

Dr. Houghton stated, “I’ve been working closely with Matt and Andy at Fortius Clinic for the past two seasons, so this feels like a logical continuation.

“My role will be to enhance recovery from injury and maximise player availability and I am absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to work with Kieran McKenna and the team as the Club returns to the Premier League.”

Dr. Houghton will begin his duties during pre-season, as the Club prepares for the Premier League season, which begins in August.
