Toronto Blue Jays’ top prospect, was been selected for transfers by the New York Yankees

The future is now again uncertain for former Toronto Blue Jays top prospect Jordan Groshans, who was recently designated for assignment by the New York Yankees.

Jordan Groshans, the former Toronto Blue Jays’ top prospect, has been designated for assignment by the New York Yankees, making his future uncertain once more.

According to the Yankees on social media:

Will the NY Yankees Come Back to Make the World Series After Breaking Yet Another Disappointing Record in August 2022? - EssentiallySports
Earlier today, the Yankees claimed INF Jahmai Jones off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the Yankees designated INF Jordan Groshans for assignment.

This is his second DFA this offseason; he was also let go by the Miami Marlins. The Yankees will now have one week to trade, release, or send him to the minors.

He was ranked in the Top 100 prospects (per MLB.com) for three years in a row from 2020 to 2022, reaching No. 46 in 2021. Groshans is still only 24, so there’s a chance he’ll find himself as he grows older, but that hasn’t occurred yet.

He’s batted.262 in 61 career major league at-bats and hit only.244 at Triple-A last season, with six home runs.

Given his age and past prospect status, you’d have to believe he’ll get a chance someplace, whether with the Yankees in the minors or with another team.

Previously, his MLB.com prospect profile stated the following:

Groshans has the potential to hit for average and power from the right side of the plate, thanks to his excellent bat speed, balanced swing, and ability to barrel the ball.

He consistently hits strong line drives with backspin carry to all fields, has no trouble turning around quality velocity, and uses a mature approach for his age. Scouts believe Groshans will develop plus power as he grows into his projectable 6-foot-3 frame and adds some loft to his swing, and he already displays an inherent Feel comfortable driving the ball the other way with authority.
