The headliner of Atlanta’s 2024 international free agent class has officially made his debut.

When the Atlanta Braves signed international free agent Jose Perdomo in January 2024, the anticipation for the promising 17-year-old shortstop joining the team was palpable, and properly so.

According to MLB Pipeline, Perdomo was the No. 3 overall international free agency prospect from Venezuela at the time of signing. The shortstop was also regarded as one of the best hitters in the class, and he received one of the highest bonuses of any player to enter the Braves organization.

As you’d expect from a player with obvious tools, anticipation for Perdomo’s potential Braves debut would already be building. That debut has now officially occurred, with the prospect taking the field for the first time as a member of the Braves organization earlier this month.

Atlanta Braves prospect Jose Perdomo makes professional debut

Perdomo, who currently plays for the DSL Braves, made his professional debut earlier this month on July 16, going one for two with a single in a game against the DSL Reds.

Since then, Perdomo has played in six games with the DSL Braves.235/.235/.235 for a.470 OPS, one SB, and a 4:0 K:BB ratio. In addition to his offensive statistics, Perdomo’s defensive outings have all been at shortstop.

Perdomo, the Braves’ No. 6 overall prospect, is only 17 years old and already one of the most promising prospects in the organization. In fact, the only position player ranked higher than him as a prospect is fellow shortstop Nacho Alavarez Jr., who ranks fifth overall.

However, Perdomo is still many years away from being considered for an MLB call-up, implying that the shortstop has the potential to become one of baseball’s best prospects in a few years.

The answer to that question will eventually be revealed, and we will undoubtedly learn it now that Perdomo’s professional career has begun.
