Former Celtic and Hibs manager Mowbray was only named to the dugout last month, but he took a 10-day leave to seek medical care.

However, at a pre-match news conference ahead of Saturday’s Blues Championship encounter at home against Southampton, his number two Venus provided a hopeful update on the 60-year-old’s position.

He stated, “To be honest, I’ve spoken with him every day. A little update: he had his surgery and everything is OK. He’s getting stronger, so he should be able to return soon.

I’m not saying right away, but it’s been good hearing him and talking to him. It’s given us some confidence. I gave the guys a quick update from him this morning (Thursday). They all asked, and they continued to ask. We’re keeping everyone up to date. “He’s becoming stronger.”
