Tony Mowbray explains why Birmingham City is better than Sunderland

Tony Mowbray has identified one important area in which Birmingham City outperforms Sunderland.

Mowbray left the Black Cats for the Midlands in recent weeks after being fired by the Stadium of Light leadership.

The 60-year-old has taken over as manager of the Blues in lieu of Wayne Rooney, and he is ready to take charge of his first game with the club this weekend.

Despite just being with Birmingham for a few days, he has already identified one area where his new club exceeds his previous one.

The veteran coach has cited the cuisine at St. Andrew’s as an improvement above the platter served at Wearside.

Mowbray gives compliments to the chef

Mowbray appeared to be in a good humor during his pre-match press conference, complimenting the club’s food.

He commended the cooking personnel and likened the Sunderland buffet to the Birmingham buffet.

“Until you get in and feel the inner workings of any football club, you don’t know [major differences],” Mowbray stated, according to Ed Higgs on Twitter.

“I’m looking behind [the assembled press], and the buffet they’ve prepared for you is incredible.”

“The cuisine at this club is incredible, I mean incredible.

My prior club did incredible things in the kitchen, but wow.

“This is A1, top Premier League, Champions League food I suggest to you, you’re very fortunate.”

Mowbray had been in charge of Sunderland for 15 months before being fired in early December.

In his first season in charge, he led the team to sixth place, but failed to secure promotion to the Premier League after a 3-2 loss to Luton Town in the play-off semi-finals.

Sunderland appointed ex-Rangers and QPR manager Michael Beale in place of Mowbray.

Birmingham sit 20th in the Championship table ahead of their return to league play this weekend.

Following a terrible run of form during Rooney’s tenure as manager, the gap to the relegation zone is now just six points.

During his 13-week tenure, the 37-year-old supervised just two wins in 15 games before being sacked by Mowbray.

The Blues’ next game is against Swansea City at St. Andrew’s on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, in the evening kick-off, Sunderland will face Ipswich Town.
