Tony Mowbray discusses John O’Shea talks that resulted in Birmingham City’s departure

Tony Mowbray has confirmed the departure of John O’Shea from Birmingham City.

Following Mowbray’s appointment, O’Shea has joined Wayne Rooney and Carl Robinson in leaving the club. On Friday, the former Manchester United and Republic of Ireland defender notified Mowbray of his intention to quit.

“John has left the football club,” Mowbray announced following the Blues’ 2-2 draw with Swansea City.”John paid me a visit. He aspires to be a manager and wishes to be considered for the position. We talked for a long time, and I attempted to urge him to stay.

“He came in yesterday and shook everyone’s hand and wished us all the best.” That’s great; the manager change is what it is. He’ll go, spend some time with his family, and look for another opportunity.”

Long-term sidekick Mark Venus, who was promoted assistant manager last week, Ashley Cole, Pete Shuttleworth, and goalkeeping coach Maik Taylor now make up Mowbray’s coaching team. Following O’Shea’s departure, there may be opening for another coach.

“I’ve been going to bed at midnight every night because I’ve received hundreds of texts from football people, many of whom are unemployed, asking if I need a new coach.” I could bring in 50 coaches the next day.

“Let’s see what happens. I have to feel what everyone else is feeling. Ashley’s training voice and zeal are appealing to me. He is an excellent, young coach. Hopefully, he realizes the value of working with diverse individuals and seeing things in different ways.”
