Tom Gores looks like an amateur wannabe in the eyes of Detroit Lions owner Sheila Hamp

Detroit Lions supporters are fortunate that their major owner, Sheila Hamp, has finally discovered the secret recipe for reviving an NFL franchise that has been inactive for several decades.

Unlike Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores, who operates his basketball team like an amateur part-timer, Hamp has established the cultural foundation required for success both on and off the court.

After recognizing that the organization needed to address its culture and produce a brand of football that the audience could rally around, ownership set out on a road to attempt another rebuild.

Former Lions linebacker Chris Spielman represents the supporters’ rugged, no-nonsense, hard-nosed character.

Following his advice, the company hired head coach Dan Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes, and established a collaborative and open-minded mentality.

When the 2022 Lions opened the season 0-5, the backlash was intense.

Hamp stepped in front of television cameras and addressed the fanbase during normal business hours, rather than gathering media members on a Friday evening in a traditional effort at a news dump.

The Pistons are on the verge of breaking the NBA record for consecutive defeats (28), having been on the losing end for 25 straight games.

“Even though we should have won a few more games, how many of those games?” Perhaps three or four? Who knows what number it is? But we’re not set up the way we need to be,” Gores told reporters, according to Mlive. “So nobody’s fooling each other that we’re there in any way.”

Unfortunately for the Pistons and their management, trust in their capacity to achieve anything important other than shooting t-shirts into the seats has plummeted to an all-time low.

Gores clearly has a leadership team that offers little to no answers and responds only after the harm has been done and the building has collapsed.

Addressing your disastrous franchise with supporters when the team is on the edge of setting futility records is yet another example of an owner who has gotten out of his depth.

While Gores has pledged reforms, I am more confident that Orenthal James Simpson will ultimately learn who the true murderers are before the Pistons owner gets a clue.

This weekend has the potential to be a watershed moment for the Lions. The squad can win their division for the first time since 1993 if they defeat the Vikings.

“This was a huge teardown and then turnaround,” Hamp said last year.” And, really, we’re only a third of the way through the season, with 11 games remaining.” So, I simply don’t want to panic and abandon ship, because I feel we have the right people in place to carry this out, and I honestly believe so.”
