Tom Brady’s Birmingham team should be concerned about Wayne Rooney’s MLS troubles

Wayne Rooney appears to be close to making a comeback to English football with Birmingham City, although his time there was anything from easy.

Wayne Rooney, the former head coach of D.C. United, is anticipated to return to English management, and formal negotiations over the open position at St. Andrew’s University have already begun with Tom Brady’s Birmingham City. After D.C. United missed the MLS playoffs, Rooney and the team mutually decided to end his contract.

“The moment is right. Rooney declared, “I’ve done everything I can to get this team into the playoffs. There hasn’t been a single event, I repeat. Your professional timing is important. My time here has been incredibly enjoyable. The owners have been a huge help to me… Simply put, I think the moment is perfect for me to return to England, first and foremost to visit my family. They haven’t been around for a while.

Jason Levien, co-chairman of D.C. United and its chief executive, stated: “We have spoken with Wayne and decided it is best for us to split ways at this time. This choice opens the door for our future general manager to fully implement a new philosophy and organizational framework for our sporting activities, starting with the crucial task of finding a head coach who will best fit this. We appreciate everything Wayne Rooney has done for our team, soccer in the nation’s capital, first as a player and captain of DC United, and most recently as our coach.

The former manager of Manchester United and England is still abroad, but negotiations regarding a rapid return to management have started. Birmingham City is seeking a quick settlement after letting John Eustace go. Despite the fact that Birmingham is currently sixth in the second division of English football, the decision to fire Eustace was made.

Despite Rooney having a difficult time winning any of his 53 games as manager of D.C. United, it has been decided to investigate the potential of him taking over at Birmingham. Before Rooney’s prospective arrival, the Daily Express Sport lists three issues that Brady and company at Birmingham City should be concerned about.

Rooney joined D.C. United after a Great Escape from Derby County’s threat of relegation. Despite suffering a 21-point deduction, Derby still managed to complete the 21/22 season only seven points outside of safety. If they hadn’t been punished, they would have been secure. Rooney, however, only had a 35.8% win rate after joining D.C. United, winning just 14 games, drawing 13 and losing 26.

No postseason participation

Rooney failed to lead D.C. United to the postseason during his season and a half there. Last season, D.C. United finished last in the Eastern Conference. This time, Rooney did get them a little bit closer to the playoffs, but ultimately they fell short.

Football’s championship playoff game is regarded as the most lucrative matchup. Birmingham, who have been out from the Premier League for more than ten years, are anxious to return, but Rooney has so far been unable to guide his clubs to the necessary position in the standings.

Rooney gave his approval to several well-known D.C. United transfers. known names from England’s top division. Strikers like Christian Benteke, an ex-Liverpool and Aston Villa player, Mateusz Klich, Lewis O’Brien, and Ravel Morrison all joined the squad.

The latter, Morrison, was once thought to represent the future of British football but ultimately failed to find his footing following a thrilling start at West Ham after being released by Rooney’s former team, Manchester United. With 14 MLS goals, Benteke provided the best return among the new players, although the ex-Belgium international had a weak supporting cast.

Rooney ultimately failed to turn D.C. United’s spending into accomplishments. Birmingham City will need things to be different in the Championship if they support him in the transfer market.
