To make it to the Super Bowl, the Packers must revenge twice

The Green Bay Packers aim to avenge themselves against the San Francisco 49ers on January 20.

In the 2021 NFL season, the Packers finished 13-4 and received a bye in the first round of the playoffs. The Packers’ season came to an end with a 10-13 home loss to the 49ers in the divisional round. Ironically, the remaining three NFC clubs are the ones who have ended the Packers’ last three seasons.

In 2020, the Packers finished 13-3, earning another first-round bye. The Packers won the divisional game against the Los Angeles Rams 32-18. In the NFC Championship game, they were defeated at home by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 26-31. In 2022, they were defeated 16-20 by the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field, despite needing to win their final game to advance to the playoffs.

The 49ers have the Packers number.

The Packers have yet to face the San Francisco 49ers this season. However, recent postseason games between the two have been extremely one-sided. The 49ers have a 4-1 record in their last five postseason encounters with the Packers. The Packers last defeated the 49ers in the playoffs in 2002. Quarterback Brett Favre passed for 269 yards and two touchdowns. Ahman Green, the running back, rushed for 86 yards and one touchdown in the 25-15 triumph. The 49ers have a 5-4 postseason record against the other team.

Despite not winning a championship in 13 years, the Packers have made the playoffs nine times since.Their last Super Bowl appearance, in 2011, ended in victory as they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25.

Green Bay is colloquially known as Titletown, and with good cause. The Packers now hold the record for the most NFL titles with 13. However, most of the titles are from before the Super Bowl era. The Packers have won four Super Bowls since the first one was held in 1967, when they defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10.Only three clubs have won more Super Bowls than the Packers. The Dallas Cowboys have won five, while the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers have both won six.

Packers beat the odds.

Being the most successful NFL team in history adds an extra layer of pressure. However, expectations were lower than usual entering the 2023 season. Green Bay’s opening-day roster included 14 rookies and a first-year starter, causing bookies to be skeptical.

Prior to the start of the 2023 season, Pro Football Reference’s over/under for the Packers’ win total was 7.5. Additionally, their chances of winning the Super Bowl were +5000. The Packers exceeded expectations, winning nine games and remaining in contention for the Lombardi Trophy.However, in order to accomplish this, they must first defeat the team that eliminated them from the playoffs in 2021. If they succeed, they will have to defeat either the team who prevented them from reaching the playoffs in 2022 or the team that eliminated them from the playoffs in 2020.
