During the Cleveland Browns’ wild-card triumph, Houston Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik presented his resume via game footage. Slowik is one of nine candidates with whom the Tennessee Titans have requested interviews for the position of head coach.

Bobby Slowik, the offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans, demonstrated his coaching abilities during Saturday’s 45-17 wild-card playoff triumph over the Cleveland Browns.

The Texans’ outstanding offensive performance against the highly respected Browns’ defense demonstrates why at least four teams, including the Tennessee Titans, have requested interviews with him for coaching positions.

Slowik demonstrated his play-calling abilities against the Browns by exploiting rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud’s abilities as a runner and a dexterous passer capable of making any throw. Stroud completed 16 of 21 passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns.

“We ball when he calls. “He knew he had to mix it up a little bit,” Stroud said after the win on Saturday. “We wanted to throw the ball early to establish that we would not back down from anything.””When you have an OC that’s going to be aggressive and take care of the football, really that’s a recipe for success.”

Notably, the Texans’ performance has improved dramatically this season. They managed to win the AFC South despite just winning three games last season. This accomplishment may largely be ascribed to Stroud’s efforts and the rookie head coach, DeMeco Ryans. However, Slowik, the team’s offensive coordinator, must be recognized for his tremendous accomplishments in his debut season.

Slowik joined the Texans as offensive coordinator in 2023 after six seasons with the 49ers, when he most recently served as offensive passing game coordinator. Slowik joined the 49ers during the same season as Ryans, acting as defensive quality control coaches.

Slowik served in a variety of capacities on Kyle Shanahan’s 49ers staff from 2017 to 2022. He worked as a passing game coordinator, a passing game specialist, an offensive assistant, and a defensive quality control coach.

Slowik’s work with Stroud may be an indication of his ability to mentor young quarterbacks. With 4,108 yards and 23 touchdowns to five interceptions as a rookie, Stroud is the clear favorite for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and a longshot MVP candidate.

Stroud’s three touchdown throws aided the Texans in scoring 31 points against the Browns. Slowik’s calls, according to Stroud, made the game simpler for him.

If Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk saw the game, she most likely saw what general manager Ran Carthon saw in Slowik while both were on the San Francisco 49ers.

“Bobby did a great job, our O-line, our tight ends, running backs, our receivers, our defense, scoring points,” Stroud said in a press conference. “We discuss it all the time. It’s extremely exciting to watch it come true.”
