Eagles chairman Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement issued by the organization, “DeSean Jackson was a dynamic playmaker who captivated Eagles fans with his game-breaking speed, unique skill set, and explosive play.” “Throughout his remarkable 15-year career, DeSean’s ability to make miraculous plays seem ordinary was what really set him apart.”

In 2008, Jackson was drafted by the Eagles in the second round of the draft. Playing both wide receiver and punt returner in his early career, he quickly made a name for himself as one of the league’s most explosive players. In addition to having four punts returned for touchdowns in his first three seasons, he led the NFL in yards per return in his sophomore year.

Before starting spells with Washington and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jackson played six seasons with Philadelphia and was nominated to three Pro Bowls. He made his second trip back to Philadelphia in 2019 before departing once more following the 2020 season. The 36-year-old last participated in football in 2022, when he made nine catches for 153 yards while playing in seven games with the Baltimore Ravens.
