Three far-too-early Emeka Egbuka bold predictions for Ohio State football following the departure of Marvin Harrison Jr.

Emeka Egbuka is saying all the right things as he prepares to return in 2024-2025.

The Ohio State football team finished the 2023-2024 season with a whimper. They were defeated by archrival Michigan football in the Cotton Bowl on a last-second interception thrown by current Syracuse Orange QB Kyle McCord, and were unable to cap off an otherwise successful regular season with a victory over Missouri.

Coach Ryan Day and his staff will have to overcome a schedule that includes a trip to Eugene, Oregon to face Coach Dan Lanning’s Ducks, a road game against Penn State, and a home finale versus Michigan football in order for the Buckeyes to better their fortunes in 2024.

With the return of one of its stars this weekend, the Buckeyes’ defense received a significant lift. Despite a high-profile transfer from the SEC, a top running back for the Buckeyes revealed his intention to return.

The main issue for the Buckeyes coming into next season is how well they will gel.

Emeka Egbuka, the offensive star, has also declared his return and is set to head the Ohio State football team’s renowned receiving corps. Here are three predictions for Egbuka for the upcoming season:

1. Ohio State football’s Egbuka will be WR1 with Marvin Harrison Jr. gone-

Marvin Harrison Jr. has left for the NFL and is expected to be drafted in the top five to ten picks.

Egbuka has the experience, route-running ability, leadership abilities, and enthusiasm for the Ohio State football program to be WR1 from the start.

If Egbuka performs to his potential and leads Coach Day’s attack, he will have one of his best seasons in recent memory, as will the Buckeyes.

Following the 14-3 catastrophe and eventual loss to the Missouri Tigers in the Cotton Bowl, Ohio State required a show of confidence and leadership from its older players.

Egbuka, TreyVeyon Henderson, and others have stepped forward. It is now up to each of them to take the lead in both practice and game scenarios.

2. Egbuka will recapture his 2022 magic-

Egbuka was almost as well-known in 2023 as his Biletnikoff Award-winning receiving corps member Harrison Jr.

In 2022, Egbuka put up tremendous statistics, and many expected him and Harrison Jr. to repeat the high-flying offense of the CJ Stroud days in Columbus. That didn’t happen with McCord under center and in the shotgun position.

Egbuka has only 41 catches for the Buckeyes this season, casting question on his future with the team and in the Big Ten.

Now that Will Howard has transferred from Kansas State football, Egbuka is primed for another successful season.

Egbuka won’t put up big numbers, but with Harrison Jr. gone, Ohio State will rely on him more. He will improve on and approach his 2022 numbers as he leads Ohio State football to the inaugural 12-team NCAA Football Playoff.

3. Egbuka will become an Ohio State football captain-

In 2024-2025, Egbuka will follow in the footsteps of Tommy Eichenberg, Cade Stover, and Xavier Johnson by becoming an Ohio State football team captain.

With the Buckeyes’ future as an elite program on the line, the Buckeyes rely on him to lead the way.

According to off-season interviews, Egbuka has taken on the mantle of leadership, winning the Big Ten and defeating ‘The Team Up North’ this offseason.

That is tremendously encouraging for an Ohio State team in desperate need of leadership. With Harrison Jr. leaving for the NFL, Egbuka is the man to carry the mantle. The Buckeyes are expected to have a successful season, led by Egbuka on offense.
