Three Birmingham City players who may not play for the club again

Birmingham City are now 15th in the table and appear to be both safe from relegation and out of contention for a spot in the top six by the conclusion of the season.

Birmingham City have had four permanent managers this season, including John Eustace, Wayne Rooney, and Tony Mowbray. This lack of consistency is seen in their on-field performances as well.

They currently sit six points above the relegation zone and 16 points behind sixth-placed Hull City. With this in mind, the Blues may already be looking ahead to next season.

Birmingham City are expected to want to overhaul their squad in the summer with the goal of improving their league place in the 2023/24 season.

This indicates that players may be on their way out, and we’ll take a look at those who may have already played their final game for the club.

Scott Hogan

Hogan was linked with a transfer away in January, with Sheffield Wednesday interested. However, the move away from St. Andrew’s did not materialise, and he has found his playing time substantially curtailed after staying at Birmingham City over the transfer deadline.

Since the beginning of December last year, he has only made four appearances and has been left out of the matchday squad on five occasions. His days appear to be numbered, and he may be looking for a new opportunity in the coming months.

Neil Etheridge

Despite playing two consecutive games earlier this month, they were his first appearances of the Championship season. He is certainly second choice behind veteran John Ruddy, and he may not get another chance between the posts before the season ends.

At 34, he is likely to want to play consistently as his career comes to an end. A move away from Birmingham City appears to be the most likely consequence this summer, and he may have already played his final game.

Marcel Oakley
Finally, a youthful fullback Oakley is unlikely to get any more time in the first-team lineup this season. He has played 27 minutes in two games and has only appeared on the bench eight more times.

With his contract expiring in June, he may become a free agent in just four months time. However, considering his age of 21 and promise, Birmingham City may offer the academy graduate a new agreement.
