This year’s NFL playoff rosters include ex-Michigan Wolverines

The NFL playoffs are here, and once again Michigan’s football program will be will-represented in the postseason.

Overall, 15 ex-Wolverines are on active rosters heading into the postseason, which begins Saturday. Of the 14 playoff teams, eight have at least one former Michigan player on their active roster.

Here’s a breakdown by team:

Detroit Lions: 3

Defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, offensive guard Graham Glasgow, receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones

The Lions are the No. 3 seed in the NFC and hosting a playoff game for the first time since 1994. Hutchinson is a major reason why. There has been no sophomore slump for the 2022 No. 2 overall pick, who was selected to the Pro Bowl after recording 51 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 11 ½ sacks, three forced fumbles, seven pass breakups and an interception.

Glasgow is an eighth-year veteran, starting 15 of 17 games this season. Peoples-Jones has played sparingly since coming over in a mid-season trade with the Cleveland Browns, catching five passes for 58 yards in eight games with the Lions, who host the on Sunday night.
Dallas Cowboys: 3
Cornerback Jourdan Lewis, tight end Luke Schoonmaker, defensive tackle Mazi Smith
Smith and Schoonmaker were Dallas’ first two picks in last year’s draft but haven’t been impact players to this point for the Cowboys, who will host the Packers on Sunday as the No. 2 seed in the NFC. Smith has played 28% of defensive snaps, recording 13 tackles and one sack.

Schoonmaker has been on the field for 31% of offensive plays and has tallied eight receptions for 65 yards and two scores.

Lewis, a 2017 third-round pick, remains a focal point of the Cowboys’ defense. He has played 73% of snaps and finished the regular season with 52 tackles, five pass breakups, three forced fumbles and an interception.
Former Michigan tight end Sean McKeon is currently on injured reserve for the Cowboys.
San Francisco 49ers: 3
Receiver Ronnie Bell, cornerback Ambry Thomas, kicker Jake Moody
Bell and Moody both are rookies for San Francisco, which is the NFC’s No. 1 seed to earn a bye. Moody was the first kicker selected and has made 21 of 25 field-goal attempts this season, including 2 of 3 from beyond 50 yards. Bell, a seventh-rounder, hasn’t played much on offense but has hauled in six passes for 68 yards and three touchdowns. He also is a key player on special teams.
Thomas has played a career-high 49% of snaps in his third year in the league. He has 43 tackles, seven pas breakups and an interception.
Green Bay Packers: 2
Outside linebacker Rashan Gary, offensive guard Jon Runyan Jr.
Both players are mainstays for the Packers. Gary, a former first-round pick, signed a monster extension in October. He is coming off a torn ACL in 2022 but has played in all 17 games in 2023, recording 44 tackles, nine sacks and two fumble recoveries.
Runyan is in his third season as a starter for the Packers.
Houston Texans: 1
Receiver Nico Collins
Collins has emerged as one of the top receivers in the league this season for Houston, the AFC South winner and No. 4 seed. The 2021 third-round pick finished eight with 1,297 receiving yards and tied for eighth with eight receiving touchdowns. In a playoff-clinching win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 18, Collins had a career-high nine catches for 195 yards and a touchdown, prompting head coach Jim Harbaugh to give him a shoutout at Michigan’s national championship news conference.

The Texans host the Cleveland Browns on Saturday. Former Michigan defensive tackle Maurice Hurst Jr. is on injured reserve for Cleveland.

Kansas City Chiefs: 1
Defensive end Mike Danna
The 2020 fifth-round pick had a career-year for Kansas City, the No. 3 seed in the AFC. He totaled 50 tackles, seven for loss, 6 ½ sacks and three pass breakups. The Chiefs will host Miami on Saturday night with windchills expected to be well below 0 degrees.
Pittsburgh Steelers: 1
Center Mason Cole
The 2018 third-round pick is with his third NFL franchise. He started all 17 games for a second straight year for the Steelers, who are the No. 7 seed in the AFC and will face the Buffalo Bills on Monday.

Philadelphia Eagles: 1

Defensive end Brandon Graham
The 35-year-old’s production declined in 2023 after a career-high 11 sacks in 2022, but he remains an effective player of the bench for the Eagles, who will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday as the No. 5 seed in the NFC.
This season, Graham, a 2011 first-round pick, had 16 tackles and three sacks in 17 games.
