The Yankees reportedly ‘in play’ for free-agent star player pitcher

This offseason, the New York Yankees could make another significant move.

In the organization, New York is actively seeking to enhance its pitching. The Yankees have been looking for starting pitching help, but they also need one or two high-impact relievers. If the Yankees fail to sign a starting pitcher in free agency, such as former Yankee Jordan Montgomery, they could reportedly turn and pursue ace reliever Josh Hader, according to The Athletic’s Jim Bowden.

“(Josh Hader’s) looking for a deal north of Edwin Díaz,” Bowden told the media. “So it would be five years and more than $100 million, and no club has gone to that ballpark yet.” However, the three clubs in contention are the New York Yankees, the Texas Rangers, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. What’s intriguing here is that it looks like all three of those teams would rather sign a starter or trade for a starting pitcher than acquire a closer. However, if the Yankees are unable to re-sign Jordan Montgomery, as they hope, they will not be scared to pivot to acquire Hader.” Right now, Hader is perhaps the finest closer in baseball.

He is seeking a large contract worth more than $100 million, but if the Yankees fail to land a starter, bringing him in to bolster an already strong bullpen could make sense.
