The Yankees are ‘optimistic’ about signing a star in a game-changing move

Is a game-changing free-agent signing on the horizon for the Yankees?

The New York Yankees may be considered World Series contenders in 2024 if they can acquire another top-tier starter to their rotation.

Despite having one of the weakest offenses in baseball, New York won 82 games last season. The Yankees went into the summer expecting to improve their outfield and add some left-handed power to their order. New York accomplished this significantly by signing Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo.

The Yankees are currently focusing on the starting rotation and are considered one of the favorites to sign Orix Buffaloes pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Aside from Shohei Ohtanit, the 25-year-old is the most sought-after free agency starter and is slated to speak with teams this week.

Yamamoto reportedly spoke with the San Francisco Giants on Sunday and planned to meet with the New York Yankees the following day. It’s unclear what will come of the meeting, but according to YES Network’s Jack Curry, the Yankees are “optimistic” about landing Yamamoto.
