The three best spots for the Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts have a lot of needs heading into the NFL Draft, but there are a few positions they don’t need to prioritize. The Colts already have a lot of quality on the roster, and many of those players have received contract extensions. They also added some skill during the offseason to help the team thrive. This has resulted in three spots being shored up for the 2024 season.

The Three Strongest Positions for the Indianapolis Colts

Defensive Tackle

The Indianapolis Colts’ defensive lineman position is perhaps one of their strongest. After re-signing Grover Stewart and Taven Bryan and adding Raekwon Davis from the Miami Dolphins, the middle of the line is loaded. Not to mention that these players will team up with All-Pro DeForest Buckner, the Colts’ finest tackle.

Buckner and Stewart are the Colts’ top defensive tackles. Behind those two, there are depth players capable of competing and making plays. The key for the center of a defensive line is to disrupt the quarterback’s throwing lane. It also blocks the ball carrier’s running lane. Buckner and Stewart have demonstrated that they can accomplish both of these feats. Bryan has demonstrated potential and is a strong depth piece. In seven starts in 2023, he recorded two sacks, 12 solo tackles, and four tackles for loss. Raekwon Davis, a newly acquired player, started seven games for Miami in 2023 and finished with 15 solo tackles, two tackles for loss, and six quarterback hits.

The Colts still need a more consistent edge rusher on the defensive line. However, the tackle position is strong going into 2024.

Offensive Line

The offensive line has historically been the Indianapolis Colts’ strongest unit. This is due in great part to the leadership of General Manager Chris Ballard. In 2022, the offensive line suffered significantly as a result of inexperience and injury. In 2023, however, the line improved and revealed hints of the elite unit it once was.
