The Sky Sports host predicts the score of Leeds’ match against Ipswich

David Prutton believes Leeds United will draw 2-2 with promotion hopefuls Ipswich Town in order to cut the gap between second and third place.

Ipswich have collected 52 points from 22 games this season, leaving the Whites in third place and level on points with Southampton.

Leeds’ match against the Tractor Boys on Saturday lunchtime might be crucial in the club’s current campaign as Daniel Farke attempts to guide the team back to the Premier League.

Prutton discussed the forthcoming game on Sky Sports’ Championship Predictions podcast on Wednesday (20 December).

Falling behind

With Leicester City presently having the best start to a Championship season, the rest of the league is playing catch-up. Ipswich are only three points off the top of the standings, with Leeds and Southampton trailing by ten points.

Rather than aiming for automatic promotion, the Whites will most likely have to compete for play-off berths. Despite having had such a great season, with 42 points from a possible 66, a win over Ipswich might transform the mood around Elland Road.

It could also help to close the gap between Leeds and the other teams in the area. The Saints will meet a resurrected QPR side, while Hull City will visit Bristol City and West Brom will face Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough.

Leeds could finish the weekend seven points behind Ipswich and 12 points ahead of any team not in the play-offs. It will be a difficult season, especially with the goal of returning to the Premier League.

However, it is critical to take one step at a time. Three points against Ipswich are essential in what already feels like a must-win situation. At this stage, a 2-2 draw would seem like a setback for Farke’s troops.
