The Seahawks release Lindsey off the practice squad and waive Faoliu from the 53-man roster

The Seahawks on Tuesday waived nose tackle Austin Faoliu off their 53-man roster and released receiver Tyjon Lindsey off the practice squad.

The move with Faoliu came a day after he had been activated to the 53 after he had recently returned to practice after beginning the season on the physically unable to perform list due to a knee injury suffered during the offseason program.

The twin moves open up spots on both the 53-man and practice-squad rosters, and it’s possible they are part of some roster shuffling.

Seattle could be hoping to bring back Faoliu to the practice squad if he clears waivers, and could be positioning to use the spot on the 53-man roster for another purpose.

One possibility could be activating rookie running back Kenny McIntosh, who returned to practice two weeks ago off injured reserve.

McIntosh can only practice for one more week before the team either has to put him on the 53 or back on IR.

Seattle might need some running back depth this week, though, depending on the health of DeeJay Dallas, who suffered a shoulder injury in Sunday’s 37-3 loss at Baltimore.

Faoliu signed with the Seahawks in May in the wake of a standout season with the Seattle Sea Dragons. He was named to the All-XFL team after making 24 tackles and a sack in 10 games. Faoliu, who played at Oregon, played in one NFL game with Dallas in 2021.

Coach Pete Carroll said Monday that Faoliu had been impressive over the last two weeks of practice.

“He’s practiced well,’’ Carroll said. “We’re anxious to see what we can get done there. You’ll see how we work it see how it fits together, can’t tell yet, but he’s been impressive enough to get a chance.”

Carroll also said Monday that Dallas had suffered a “legitimate’’ shoulder injury. But he was not placed on IR, meaning the team seems to think he wouldn’t need to miss the four games that would be required if he went on IR.

Seattle has had just three running backs on its 53 all season — Dallas, Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet. McIntosh, a seventh-round pick out of Georgia, went on IR before the season due to a knee injury.
